News & More - An Introduction to African American Golf History
History is rooted in those who had the will to take the first step!!
African American Golf History has been documented back to the 1800s with landmark contributions of John Shippen Jr., the first American-born professional golfer (1879) and the first African American professional golfer who received a money prize (1896); and Dr. George Grant, the first to receive a United States patent for a wooden golf tee invention (1899).
After over a century of extraordinary accomplishments and events, African American Golf History is still not recognized as an integral part of golf or American history.
